Mario Bokara (born in Croatia, raised in the U.S.) is a Croatian-American professional wrestler best known for his run in Impact Wrestling as well as a long and hard-fought career on the U.S. independent circuit. Known for his toughness and pride in his Croatian heritage, Bokara carved out a niche as a reliable hand in the ring—capable of working with top talent and carrying the banner of smaller promotions in the Northeast.
Early Career – “Mo Sexton” on the Indies (2000–2012)
Bokara began wrestling in August 2000, first adopting the ring name Mo Sexton. Starting out in the tough New Jersey scene, he worked for a variety of regional promotions including:
-
Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW)
-
Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW)
-
American Championship Entertainment (ACE)
-
World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW)
In 2005, Bokara received a taste of the national spotlight. He wrestled two matches for WWE’s B-shows, losing to Simon Dean on Velocity and Rob Conway on Sunday Night Heat.
In 2006, he signed briefly with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW)—then WWE’s developmental territory. At the OVW Six Flags Summer Sizzler Series, Bokara (as Mo Sexton) teamed with Cody Runnels (later Cody Rhodes), Kasey James, Roadkill, and Chet the Jet, defeating Jack Bull, Pat Buck, Rahim, Deuce, and Domino. Despite the opportunity, his time in OVW was short-lived.
By 2010, Bokara was working in higher-profile indie spots, including an appearance at Dragon Gate USA’s Mercury Rising, where he teamed with Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) and Christopher Daniels in a losing effort against Dan Maff.
Pro Wrestling Syndicate & WrestlePro (2012–2016)
In 2012, Bokara began wrestling regularly for Pro Wrestling Syndicate (PWS), still using his Mo Sexton name before transitioning to his real name and incorporating his Croatian heritage into his persona.
-
April 2014: Bokara captured the PWS Heavyweight Championship by defeating Bonesaw and Kevin Matthews in a triple threat.
-
He lost the title to Bonesaw later that year at Nightmare Before Christmas.
-
March 2015: Regained the PWS title by defeating Fallah Bahh.
-
Dropped the belt two months later to veteran powerhouse Dan Maff.
Bokara remained a featured name in WrestlePro (the successor to PWS) through 2016, defeating talents like Crowbar, Anthony Bowens, and Bull James, and even picking up a win over Kevin Matthews at a Create A Pro event.
Impact Wrestling / Global Force Wrestling (2017–2018)
Mario Bokara entered the national spotlight again with his debut for Impact Wrestling on March 23, 2017, teaming with Fallah Bahh and Idris Abraham in a losing effort against Mahabali Shera, Garza Jr., and Laredo Kid.
Shortly after, reports confirmed that Bokara had signed a one-year deal with Impact. He spent much of his tenure teaming with Fallah Bahh in the tag team division:
-
Lost to the Veterans of War (Mayweather & Wilcox) on April 27, 2017.
-
Fell again to VOW in the first round of the GFW Tag Team Championship tournament.
-
At One Night Only: No Surrender 2017, Bokara lost a singles match to Dezmond Xavier.
-
On August 31, 2017, Bokara and Bahh were defeated by oVe (Dave & Jake Crist).
His run was cut short by injury. On January 2, 2018, Bokara underwent surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus, which sidelined him from further Impact appearances.
Style and Reputation
Mario Bokara made his reputation as a hard-nosed competitor—mixing technical grappling with brawling, and leaning into his Croatian heritage to stand out on independent cards. Though he never reached main-event superstardom in larger promotions, he earned respect for his work ethic and his ability to deliver credible matches against both veterans and rising stars.
